Our Team
SEM Founders
Growing up on opposite sides of the world, Lara, Brazilian, and George, a Kiwi, are the founders of SEM. Before delving into the culinary world, Lara pursued a career in sustainable development, engaging in social and environmental impact projects in Brazil, while George worked as a chef in restaurants across New Zealand and Australia.
Their paths converged in the summer of 2018 in London at a Bonobo gig, where they discovered common interests extending beyond music to environmental impact and climate action. This shared passion led them to join SILO, where they worked on Doug McMaster’s team until the COVID-19 pandemic began.
Their temporary escape to Portugal turned into a permanent move when the opportunity to establish their own place arose, leading them to open SEM in the summer of 2021. George contributes his creative flair to the project while Lara focuses on sustainability and impact, collectively leading the team at SEM.
